Advanced Backend Automation Technology

Automating assembly, packaging and test facilities has always faced challenges not seen by their upstream wafer fab counterparts. These include multiple material transformations (and associated carrier types), high product variety and velocity, complex unit product traceability requirements, significant manual intervention, low (relative to wafer fab) unit equipment costs and automation budget, and several others.

In the spirit of not wanting to reinvent the wheel, one of the goals of the SEMI Standards community is to see how the existing industry standards can be adapted and adopted to address these challenges. However, this still leaves a gap that must be filled by the automation requirements for each factory customer—and this is precisely what the work described in this webinar accomplishes in a way that serves the entire industry

Description

The purpose of this webinar is to give participants interested in advanced backend automation techniques an understanding of the latest developments in this area. This webinar describes a promising solution and summarizes four of its key innovations

  • Definition of a “Target Equipment Integration Sequence” that describes the detailed interactions among components of an automated system;
  • Leveraging proven GEM 300 standards to implement the message specified in the integration sequence;
  • Creation of a reference implementation that brings the specification to life, which includes an equipment simulator, sample host application, and specific plug-ins for a compliance tester
  • Providing all the above to the SEMI Advanced Backend Factory Integration Task Force as a candidate starting point for industry standardization.

Who Should Attend

Given the breadth of stakeholders potentially impacted by a comprehensive backend automation strategy, people from backend factory organizations and their equipment suppliers could well benefit from this webinar.

  • Automation managers and engineers
  • Factory operations staff
  • Backend process, equipment, and industrial engineers
  • Manufacturing data analysts
  • Manufacturing application software developers
